SEPTLA Spring Meeting 2024

Friday, June 14, 2024

St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary South Canaan (Waymart), PA

Please RSVP online by June 1. If attending in person, lunch will be provided. If attending virtually, you’ll receive a link via email at least one day before the event. If you cannot attend, please still use the RSVP link to send us an institutional update (one per institution).

Schedule:

10:30 Arrival and refreshments

11:00 Program

12:30 Lunch

1:30 Business meeting

2:30 Interest groups

3:30 Library tour

4:30 Vespers

Physical address: 178 St. Tikhon’s Rd., Waymart, Penn. 18472.

Directions:

Take your preferred route to reach I80 West. Continue onto I380 North. Eventually, take the exit for I84 East.

Once on I84 East, take the second exit, Exit 17, Hamlin/Newfoundland. At the bottom of the ramp, turn left onto PA191, toward Hamlin.

After a few miles you will reach a single stoplight, in the village of Hamlin; continue straight.

One mile after the stoplight, just after a school zone, you will need to make a gentle left turn (which actually looks like going straight, because the main road curves to the right at that point) to get onto PA196. Be careful of traffic coming in the opposite direction and from another road hard to the left; it is a dangerous intersection because of the angles of the roads.

Once on PA196 (it is a 2-lane, twisty-turny mountain road that joins and becomes PA296 later), continue a few miles until you can turn right onto St. Tikhon’s Rd.; there will be an Exxon station on your left at the intersection. The seminary is at 178 St. Tikhon’s Rd.

As you reach the seminary and monastery grounds, the seminary building will be on your right. Park in the paved lot on your left, which is the parking lot for the monastery bookstore and seminary, and walk across the street into the main (centre) entrance of the seminary building, where Brian Cardell or someone else will meet you.

Skeletally:

-Best route to I80W.

-I80W to I380N. -I380N to I84E.

-I84E to Exit 17, Hamlin/Newfoundland.

-Left at bottom of ramp onto PA191 toward Hamlin.

-Continue straight at stoplight in Hamlin.

-1 mile later, just after the school zone, gentle (not hard) left onto PA196.

-Right onto St. Tikhon’s Rd.; Exxon station is on the left. -178 St. Tikhon’s Rd.; park on paved lot to the left.

-Walk across the street to the seminary building, centre entrance.

Dr. Thomas E. Phillips, founder of the Digital Theological Library (DTL) and Dean of Library and Information Services at Claremont School of Theology, will speak about how DTL started and has developed into a robust digital library consortium. SEPTLA Spring 2020 Meeting Postponed

After careful consideration, NYATLA and SEPLTA leaders have decided to postpone the Joint NYATLA-SEPTLA Spring 2020 Meeting until further notice. This meeting was originally scheduled for April 16, 2020 at New Brunswick Theological Seminary.

As much as appropriate, we trust we shall continue to collaborate from a distance as many of us adapt our library services to feature digital resources.

We look forward to future opportunities to meet. We wish you and your libraries the very best.
